Dr. Abby Dougherty, NCC, LPC(Pa) (she/her) is a counselor educator at Southern New Hampshire University. She teaches graduate counseling courses and contributes to the development of innovative online and low-residency counselor education.
She previously oversaw the counseling curriculum within the Creative Arts Therapies department at Drexel University. Her work centers on relational-cultural and mindfulness-informed pedagogy, neuroaffirmative counselor education, expressive and creative approaches to training, simulation-based learning, and the ethical integration of emerging technologies in counseling.
She is the author of the forthcoming textbook, Empathy in Action, and the developer of the 5 Good Things Expressive Framework. This arts-based relational model supports creativity, belonging, and empathic practice.
Dr. Dougherty is a Nationally Certified Counselor and maintains a small private supervision practice. She serves as Chair of the faculty awards committee and holds national leadership roles in professional counseling organizations. She received her PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from Walden University
